Project Specs:
Pattern: Felted Box from Mason Dixon Knitting
Yarn: Nature Wool Chunky, colors 113 and 127
Needles: US 10.5 circulars, size H hook
Size: small, 4″ x 4″ x 4″ before felting, a little shorter after felting
Pattern Alterations: no handles

I left work yesterday with some of the Nature Wool. And this morning I thought I’d knit up a Felted Box from Mason Dixon Knitting. This was a really quick knit. Ella was so interested in it that she wanted to start her own box. (She’s working on an orange one now.) After knitting, I tossed it in the front-loader with my stranded felted bag and some shoes. My goodness! My felted bag got much more felted. I didn’t know it could. But the box didn’t felt that much. It’s a little shorter which I expected. But I know I’ll be making more of these boxes. It was such a quick project and what a good way to use up scrap yarn. Next time, I’ll use bigger needles and possibly felt it twice. I would want this box stiffer.

I really like the subtle color change in the Nature Wool. I will definitely be picking up more.

For those of you looking for a way to keep track of your stash, check out CraftMemo, an online database for your craft supplies. I found the link at My Simpler Life.

I haven’t had much time to play with it yet, but it looks like it could be a nice way to figure out what I have and to organize my current or future projects. I do wish you could add categories. But you can do searches in just the notes section. So for example you want to get a list of all of your sock yarn. All you would need to do is to write the word “socks” in the notes for each of your sock yarns. Then you’ll have an easy way to compile a list of just your sock yarn.

Don’t know if I’ll be using it though. But I could imagine I could also list my needle inventory here, and my books, and my beads, and…well there’s a lot of other craft supplies in my house too.

I’m not feeling too chatty tonight, so here are the rest of my finished woven pieces from my weaving class last month.

I’m in a Yarn Haze

Yesterday, I worked my third day at the store this week, and I think I’m a bit dizzy from all of the new yarn. There’s of course all of the Noro closeouts. Even though I’m not the biggest fan of Noro, I came home with 8 skeins of the Cash Iroha in a lovely dark teal for a Falling Leaves Shawl. And I couldn’t resist getting one of these new shawl pins to accompany it.

And thanks to Cirilia, I probably wouldn’t have even noticed all of the new Nature Wool closeouts. Lots of wonderful colors. Now my head is spinning with all sorts of projects inspired by my recent purchase of Mason Dixon Knitting. I’m picturing some felted nesting boxes with the bulky, and an afghan with the worsted. Maybe an afghan of hexagons, a la Nora Gaughan.

But on top of all this, WEBS is now carrying Rowan yarns and pattern books. I don’t have enough store credit to keep up. But I do have some new Rowan swatches to make for the store. That’ll help a bit. Oh, my head is spinning.

Me! I’ve been moving along on my Clapotis. But I’ve been thinking that it’s taking a really long time to get through the beginning increase section. And why do I seem to be getting through the ball of yarn so quickly? And why does this thing seem to be getting too big? Was I that off on my gauge? So I pull out my pattern again and read it really carefully. It says to do the 12 rows of the increase pattern 7 times, not 12 as I had previously thought. I really feel stupid. I’m through the 10th repeat.

I pull out the needle, pick up the stitches in the row where I should have stopped (where you see the orange stitch markers), and rip out about 5,000 stitches. Now I’m finally in the straight section. And I’ve finally gotten to the first row where I drop stitches. Now maybe I’ll get somewhere with this thing.
