Yarn: Valley Yarns 8/2 Tencel and Brooks Farm Riata
Hook: J

Sharlene at work is an amazing crocheter. She came in one day with a finished scarf I knew I just had to make. This is my version of it. I finished this in one weekend. Could I possibly be turning into a crocheter?

Yarn: one ball each of Jo Sharp Silk Road Aran in colors Merlot & Meadow and Jo Sharp Kid Mohair Infusion in Rosehip

Another finished project for the store and a couple more Jo Sharp yarns that I love.

Finished Project: Airy Scarf

Project Specs:
Pattern: Airy Scarf from Last Minute Knitted Gifts
Yarn: Rowan’s Kidsilk Night color 610
Needles: US 10.5
Size: 6″ x 38″
Pattern Alterations: Since I was starting with less than half a ball, I didn’t know if I would have enough yarn. So I went up a needle size and CO 20 sts instead of 22 sts.

You bet! This is an airy scarf. I blocked it quite severely to lengthen it a bit. This scarf, though small, is strangely warm. Now I understand Wendy’s e-mail about her River shawl.
Tell Dena she saved my life last night.  I was one of those “I cannot get warm!” nights.   And I took a hot shower and while I was in the shower, I remembered my heavenly river shawl!!!  I took it out of it’s happy little keepsake cozy and put it on after my shower and I stayed warm for the rest of the night.  It’s like magic.
Good luck Wendy. I hear it’s 0° in Minnesota right now.

Another holiday gift finished. Six more to go, two of which I’ve already started. Oh, and crazy me. I’ve agreed to do another project for the store right now. I’m a sucker for store credit.

Finished Project: Inspiration Scarf

Project Specs:
Pattern: based on Barbara Walker’s Baby Cable Ribbing from A Treasury of Knitting Patterns, CO 46 stitches
Yarn: 3 hanks of Classic Elite’s Inspiration, 50% cashmere/50% cotton in color 20526
Needles: US 6
Size: 58″ x 5″

This is one of my finished holiday gifts, so sadly, I won’t be able to keep. This yarn is incredibly soft and has a wonderful drape. But there is no elasticity to it. So it became a scarf instead of a hat. If you want some of this yarn, hurry. There’s not much left in the WEBS warehouse.

(Thanks for being my scarf model, Bill.)

Finished Project: Ty’s Red Scarf

Project Specs:
Pattern: mistake rib
Yarn: Brown Sheep Lamb’s Pride Worsted, color M-197 Red Hot Passion
Needles: US 8
Size: 3″ x 36″

Now I’m into holiday mode, making lists of gifts to make, and trying to finish one a week to finish on time. First up, a quick red scarf (his request) for my nephew Ty. And I’ve made Mr. Spino a scarf to match.

Thanks for modeling for me Liam. I know how you don’t like that scratchy wool.

Finished Project: Silk Fir Cone Scarf

Project Specs:
Yarn: 2 skeins of Artyarns Regal Silk color 143
Needles: US 8
Size: 69″ x 9 1/2″
Pattern: CO 37 sts. Knit 4 rows.

Start pattern repeat.
Row 1 (wrong side) and all other wrong-side rows: k3, purl to last 3 sts, k3.
Row 2, 4, 6, 8: K4, * yo, k3, sl 1, k2 tog, psso, k3, yo, k1; rep from * to last 3 sts, k3.
Rows 10, 12, 14, 16: K3, k2 tog, * k3, yo, k1, yo, k3, sl 1, k2 tog, psso; rep from *, end k3, yo, k1, yo, k3, ssk, k3.

Repeat pattern 21 more times.
Do row 1 once more. K 4 rows and bind off loosely.

It’s true that this pattern has a tendency to pucker. Look at all of those peaks!

But the Regal Silk blocked well and there’s no longer a nipply scarf. It’s a scarf I did for the store. This isn’t a pattern or color that I would have chosen, but I do love the feel of the finished fabric.

(a little blocking help from Liam … I love my blocking wires)

Finished Project: Astrakan Scarf

Project Specs:
Pattern: CO 20 sts, knit in garter stitch until it’s long enough.
Yarn: Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Astrakan, color 10
Needles: US 6
Size: 5″ x 70″, nice and long

I wanted to try out this yarn before jumping into a jacket that I was considering making with it. I also wanted to get better at English style knitting so Faire Isle would be easier. Ah, but silly me. I couldn’t tell at all how my English style knitting was coming along with this highly textured yarn. So I quickly gave up with that and switched back to my left hand.

I love the finished texture of the yarn. But every ball had a knot in the middle, and it may be too bulky for my taste as a jacket. So this is the end of the line for Astrakan and me.

But I do have a new long, soft scarf for the fall. That’s nice.

International Scarf Exchange

With all of that holiday knitting finished I was finally able to start my International Scarf Exchange scarf this month. I’m using the Midwest Moonlight pattern from Scarf Style with Elsebeth Lavold’s Silky Wool in a lovely deep purple.

Paranoid that I wouldn’t finish the scarf by the deadline, I made a row-by-row chart marking which row I needed to be on by which days. Thankfully I’ve been able to keep up and I’m nearly 2/3 done now. There’s been very little unknitting with this lace scarf, but I do have to concentrate while working on it. I’m enjoying the yarn quite a bit. It’s got a nice drape and texture. I may need to consider using this yarn in future projects.

Finished Project-Misty Garden Scarf

Project Specs:
Pattern: Misty Garden from Scarf Style
Yarn: Filatura Di Crosa Ultralight
Needles: US 6 bamboo straight needles
Size: 60 inches long
My Blog Links: Scarf Style

Unlike the Branching Out scarf, this lace pattern was completely easy to memorize. After the first pattern repeat, I no longer needed to look at the instructions. This was the perfect project to work on “here and there.” Again, it’s a gift for a special person. Shhh.

OK, you can laugh now. I’ve just joined the International Scarf Exchange. You might be asking, “But what about those 12 knitted gifts you wanted to make for the holidays?” Well the due date for the exchange isn’t until mid-February. There’s plenty of time. And with my new love of Scarf Style, I’m just looking for an excuse to make another scarf.
