Knitting Books from the Library

I came home from the library yesterday with a pile of books, most of them knitting related of course: Baby Knits for Beginners, Scarf Style, Derek, The Knitting Dinosaur, Mosaic Knitting, Simple Knits for Cherished Babies, and Felted Knits. Of these, I’ve added Felted Knits and Scarf Style to my wish list. These would both be great additions to my collection. I love being able to check out knitting books in depth before committing to buying them.

I’ve decided to knit the bear from Simple Knits for Cherished Babies for my friend who’s having the baby. I’m using the Desert Garden that I tried to make a NBaT out of. I still hate knitting with this yarn. It’s splits constantly, like knitting with eight separate strands. And it has no elasticity, making it more challenging doing all of those increases. But once it’s knit, the yarn feels really nice and has excellent stitch definition. I’m using the brown and cream colored yarn and there will be some stripes involved. Once the bear’s finished I’ll add a set of CD compilations of my favorite lullabies and off the package goes.

And FYI, there’s a new KnitCast available.

  2. I am right there with you on checking books out from the library! I love it! I just got three on knitted toys from our library. My SIL is pregnant so I am thinking of doing a toy for her new baby and the two year old brother. Love KnitCast too!

  4. Hi, it’s Cirilia from Webs! If you’re ever in Amherst, the Jones library has a fantastic collection, they even have Elizabeth Zimmerman’s PBS series on VHS. Interlibrary loans have really worked out well for me too. Even with the great discount, I can’t afford all the knitting literature I crave.

Just wanted to let you know that Webs recently picked colors for a new yarn that will be arriving in Feb. or so. I got to help choose colors and was so excited to see that it’s almost the exact same fiber composition as Rowan Calmer. I showed them the NBaT and they are really psyched about the similarities. Still, a swatch will tell all…I’m sad to hear Desert Garden isn’t great, besides it’s bad yardage I thought it was good one, but I have yet to knit up my bag of it =/
