I don’t have too much to say. They’re i-cord gloves, the Sheffield is so soft, and I like the beading even though it’s tedious. The pattern is done, finally.

He Said Intarsia

I’m listening to the radio show right now and I just heard Bill talk about intarsia. That makes me smile. I like that I can tell him about Stephanie and Vickie meeting in an airport bathroom, and he gets what I’m talking about. Nice.

I’ve just added my “In Case of Fire” stash to Ravelry. If you got to take some yarn with you during a fire, what would you take?

Costume Time

The kids have told me what they want to be for Halloween this year. Ella wants to be Jane Goodall, not a problem. But Liam wants to be a hairy eyeball. Any suggestions as to how to come up with a costume for that!

I was up way too late working on the gloves. Here’s a peek:

I’ve got one good glove and then the monkey glove that I should just rip out. I’d like to do another if possible. We’ll see. Right now I just want to sleep. Well off to work I go.

Austin Rocks!

Austin was so much fun. Totally worth the 24 hours of travel to and from compared to the 46 actual hours in Austin. Crazy, but worth it.

I’m madly trying to finish the gloves for the store. I’m not thrilled with the first one. I’m having some gauge issues. As I’m looking at the glove right now, it looks like it’s proportions are for a monkey. I’ll spare you a photo. But I tried out some cuff possibilities last night and I’m liking those. This WILL work out.

I’ve had to mostly put down the Tangled Yoke for a bit so I can get the damn gloves done. But I’m nearly ready to start the yoke. Still going well.

I work with a bunch of temptresses and I had to buy these the instant I got home last week. They were waiting for me yesterday. Haven’t used them yet, but I love them. So smooth, so pretty.

Am I crazy for loving the Woodins? They’re so weird.

I’m off to Austin for a Meltdown.

Oh, and Ravelry is the best time-suck ever.

Portland/Seattle Yarn Stores

Does anyone have some recommendations to Portland, OR or Seattle yarn stores that I really shouldn’t miss? I know this is way in advance, but I’m getting so excited about our Portland trip next March.

Tangled Yoke Errata?

I’m loving the sweater still and can’t wait to finish it. I’m still working on the body. But last night I was reading ahead in the pattern, excited about getting to the cabled yoke. I’m knitting the 38″ size and noticed a couple of numbers that didn’t work out for me. When beginning the neckband with the size 4 needle, there should be 110 stitches. But then the pattern asks you to pick up and knit 112 stitches from the purl bumps. Both of these sets of stitches need to be the same number if you’re going to use a 3-needle bind off. This only seems to be an issue for the 38″ size.

I’ve posted this problem on the knit-along. I’m assuming I’ll just end up picking up the same number of stitches that I had at the beginning of the neckband. I may also use a smaller needle on the inside of the neckband to keep it from flipping out. I’ve seen a couple of finished sweaters where I see this happening.

Tangled Beginning

I couldn’t help it. I had to cast on for the Tangled Yoke Cardigan from the new Interweave Knits. One ball into it and it’s going well. I’ve seen a few finished ones on blogs and they’re all looking good. I want to wear mine now. Of course it’s hot and humid today. But fall is right around the corner. I’ve already dug out my tweed and boots.

Project Specs:
Pattern: My own, soon to be available at WEBS
Yarn: 9 balls Valley Yarns Sugarloaf, Lake
Needles: US 9
Size: Girls 8
Pattern Details: Knit in pieces from the bottom up. Seamed, then stitches are picked up for the turtleneck to finish.

This is my first attempt at designing a sweater from scratch, and I’m quite pleased. I love the baby cable ruffles, and so does Ella. The mock turtleneck is cozy but not overwhelming. Ella keeps asking me to make her one. I may have to do that. It’ll go much faster the second time around.
