Upcoming Projects

I’m so, so busy with the auction and haven’t had much time to knit let alone update the blog. But I have some projects that I’m really excited about.

Currently I’m working on a late birthday present for my grandmother, a shawl out of the left over Filatura Di Crosa Ultralight. I’m knitting it up on much larger needles this time. It’s a rectangular shawl, and I’m just making up the pattern as I knit. Considering the amount I’m knitting lately, I’m already half way through it.

The next big project is a shawl for my friend Wendy back in Minnesota for her commitment ceremony in June. We’ve exchanging many e-mails trying to figure out what to make. She decided on Rowan’s Kidsilk Night in the Starlight color. It has just a hint of shiny metallic in it. The yarn arrived yesterday. Today I went out and bought Rowan Magazine 38 and will be knitting River. Once seeing the pattern up close, I was surprised to see the beaded knot for the shawl, something I couldn’t see online. I’m intrigued. I got a new set of circular needles so I’m set to begin. It’s all I can do to keep focused on my auction work while the Kidsilk Night is staring back at me. Maybe I’ll watch a little guilty pleasure t.v. tonight and cast on, but then stop there.

And the last big project, what I’ve been referring to as my 20-year project, is an afghan from Barbara Walker’s Learn-To-Knit-Afghan Book. I’ll be knitting this the same time my friend Johanna is making hers. Now I’m searching for just the right worsted weight yarn for the project. Any suggestions?

  2. I made an afghan with my sister, we each made 20 blocks and put it together. We used Plymouth Encore worsted weight, there are lots of colors and it’s machine washable/dryable which was important. And there is a bit of wool which makes it somewhat blockable.
