Time for Me

Three days of working the big sale and I’m ready for a little me time in Boston. First a stop at The Container Store. Then a little shopping at two of my favorite clothing stores.

Then the rest of the day will be spent at the movies: Notes on a Scandal, Volver, The Painted Veil, and Little Children. And there will be lots of log cabin knitting at the movies too. Fun, fun, fun.

Finished Project: Log Cabin Socks

Project Specs:
Pattern: Log Cabin Socks from Handknit Holidays
Yarn: just about exactly 2 balls of Berroco Pleasure in color 8654
Needles: US 5, CO with US 7
Size: Woman’s

Another holiday gift, and this one might be the hardest to let go. Fortunately they are just a bit too small for me, which will help. Again with the Pleasure. It’s such a soft yarn. I had just two yards of yarn leftover. I had a third ball in the wings just in case, so there was no pressure.

This leaves one more gift to finish, the big log cabin blanket. But with Bill and the kids out of town for the week, it should be done and hopefully sent in the mail by the end of the week. So it will be work, movies, and log cabin knitting for the rest of the week.

Finished Project: Felt Clogs

Project Specs:
Pattern: Fiber Trends Felt Clogs, with the bumper
Yarn: Brown Sheep Lamb’s Pride Worsted, 7 different colors, all leftovers from other projects
Needles: US 13
Size: Men’s Medium

These have been finished for a few days, but they were for Bill, so I couldn’t blog about them. They’re a little funky, but I love that they were made from all leftovers. I really like the way they are constructed. I think using Noro Kureyon with this pattern might have some interesting results.

They were mighty big pre-felting, especially next to Liam’s little feet.

Finished Project: Felted Nesting Boxes

Project Specs:
Pattern: Felted Boxes from Mason Dixon Knitting
Yarn: Nature Wool Chunky, colors 129, 116 and 130; 2 skeins each
Needles: US 15 circulars, size H hook
Pattern Alterations: This time I knew about the mistake in the book and used the bigger needle size. I also left off the handles on two of the sides of each box.

The pattern calls the outside of the box the WS and the inside the RS. This is counter-intuitive to me and gave me some problems. I also had some problems felting the boxes since the green and black colors felted much more slowly than the other color. So they’re a little wonky.

Finished Project: Lacey Doll Shawl

Project Specs:
Pattern: Your basic feather and fan pattern
Yarn: Jaggerspun Zephr in white
Needles: US 4
Size: Oops, I forgot to measure it before I wrapped it.

Another shawl for an American Girl doll. I really like how this yarn feels and it blocked so well. Maybe this will be the yarn I use for my first intricate lacey shawl.

Finished Project: Pleasure Hat

Project Specs:
Pattern: Amherst Knit-a-long Hat by Valley Yarns
Yarn: 2 balls of Berroco Pleasure
Needles: US 9
Size: Man Size! Hopefully big enough to fit the recipient. It’s a little big for Bill, so it should be just the right size.

I didn’t like how the decreases worked out. I wish I had done a little more planning before jumping into the hat. But the holiday knitting had to get done. Swatching goes out the window this time of the year.

Project Specs:
Pattern: CO 240 sts. Garter stitch for 30 rows. Bind off. Add fringe.
Yarn: one ball each of Jo Sharp Silk Road Aran in colors Merlot & Meadow and Jo Sharp Kid Mohair Infusion in Rosehip
Needles: US 8 circs
Size: 68″ x 4″

Another finished project for the store and a couple more Jo Sharp yarns that I love.

Project Specs:
Pattern: Cast on one stitch. Increase two stitches every other row with yarn overs. Work in garter stitch until desired size. Bind off loosely and block.
Yarn: Morehouse Farm Variegated Merino Lace (I have no idea what color)
Needles: US 4
Size: 18 1/2″ across the top, 7 1/2″ from top to bottom

This is a gift for a friend’s daughter who has an American Girl doll. Hope she likes it. I still have one more American Girl shawl to make.

Finished Project: Airy Scarf

Project Specs:
Pattern: Airy Scarf from Last Minute Knitted Gifts
Yarn: Rowan’s Kidsilk Night color 610
Needles: US 10.5
Size: 6″ x 38″
Pattern Alterations: Since I was starting with less than half a ball, I didn’t know if I would have enough yarn. So I went up a needle size and CO 20 sts instead of 22 sts.

You bet! This is an airy scarf. I blocked it quite severely to lengthen it a bit. This scarf, though small, is strangely warm. Now I understand Wendy’s e-mail about her River shawl.
Tell Dena she saved my life last night.  I was one of those “I cannot get warm!” nights.   And I took a hot shower and while I was in the shower, I remembered my heavenly river shawl!!!  I took it out of it’s happy little keepsake cozy and put it on after my shower and I stayed warm for the rest of the night.  It’s like magic.
Good luck Wendy. I hear it’s 0° in Minnesota right now.

Another holiday gift finished. Six more to go, two of which I’ve already started. Oh, and crazy me. I’ve agreed to do another project for the store right now. I’m a sucker for store credit.
