I’ve Been Torn

It’s been almost five months since my last post. I started this blog to keep track of my knitting projects. But with Ravelry, and now Facebook, posting on the blog just hasn’t made it to the top of the list. But I’m ready to give it another shot.

So a super quick update of projects. This is what I’ve finished since the iSock (which I still love).

See, I haven’t just been sitting around doing nothing. Sure I hope to post more complete posts for each project. But with the holidays around the corner, I don’t see a lot of free time coming my way.

Project Specs:
Pattern: another plain weave square using my 6″ x 6″ Weavette
Yarn: The Fibre Company Terra
Size: exactly the size of my iPhone

After weaving the square, I crocheted the seam using a slip stitch. It just happens to be the perfect size for my new iPhone.

Finished Project: Terra Coasters

Project Specs:
Pattern: just a felted plain weave square using my 6″ x 6″ Weavette
Yarn: The Fibre Company Terra in various colors using scrap yarn
Size: 4.5″ x 4.5″

I had some tiny samples of Terra hanging around and I thought I’d play with my new Weavette. Once I finished one, it seemed too big for a coaster, so I threw it in the wash to felt. It came out just right. I made four more right away. I absolutely love how the woven Terra felted. It’s so soft and still has a nice drape. I dream about buying enough Terra to make a blanket of felted squares.

First off, thanks so much to Michelle who responded with lightning speed to my request on Ravelry for more Eco Wool. It arrived in the mail so quickly. You’re awesome.

Project Specs:
Pattern: Hemlock Ring Blanket by Jared
Yarn: 2 hanks of Cascade Ecological Wool, color 8095
Needles: US 10 circular 40″ and 60″
Size: about 128 rounds, 54″ in diameter

I knit beyond the 87 rows until I ran out of yarn. It turned out to be a nice sized afghan, but not big enough for two.

It was fun and easy knitting lace on heavy worsted yarn. I loved knitting the center flower, and the feather and fan pattern was easy to memorize after a couple rounds.

The Search Begins

I was so close to finishing my Hemlock Ring Blanket, and then this happened.

I ran out of yarn with only a few stitches left to bind off. This bind off eats up the yarn and is time consuming. I don’t want to rip back and try the bind off on smaller needles. And I can’t bear to buy another 478 yards just to finish this little bit of knitting. I’m going to try to find someone who can spare just a little yarn, maybe a few yards will do.

Anybody have some Cascade Ecological Wool color 8095 in any dye lot? Pretty please?

Horizontal Chain

Still don’t love slip stitch. But it blocked out nicely.

Lattice with Seed Stitch

Twisted and Crossed Ribbing

Garter and Rib Pattern

Rose Fabric

Poor blog. I’ve pretty much been ignoring it. These squares are one of two projects I worked on at the beach. Four more squares done. Our goal was to start the Mosaic section while at the beach, which we did. We’re still thinking about switching out some of the mosaic squares with some that we like more. And Johanna got to block all of her squares she’s finished. They look so nice. I’ll take a photo of them the next time we’re together.

Diagonal Ribbing

Here’s an easy pattern to memorize. It’s quite simple, yet I love this diagonal ribbing more that a regular 2×2 ribbing. I wish I took a photo of the square before blocking. That’s when I really loved the fabric. This would knit up into a lovely scarf similar to the Inspiration Scarf. But it would be easier to knit and reversible to boot!

Finished Project: Valley Log Cabin Blanket

Project Specs:
Pattern: My own, available soon at WEBS
Yarn: Valley Yarns Valley Superwash in seven lovely colors: colonial blue, forest, grass, ice blue, natural, spring leaf, and my personal favorite, teal
Needles: US 8 24″ and 40″
Size: Just shy of 36″x36″

This is the second pattern that I’ve designed for the store. I’m still not tired of log cabin knitting. This is basically the same design as the Nature Wool Log Cabin Blanket but with only 4 squares of log cabin.

And since people tend to ask about the back, here you go.

Sometimes Knitting

I’ve squeezed in a little bit of knitting time. These are the projects I’m focusing on right now.

Shepherd Socks for the Socks from Measurements class

I’m using Lorna’s Laces Shepherd Sock yarn in Camouflage on US 1 needles. I love my new rosewood needles. So much so, I don’t really mind using double points. I’m using a seeded rib for the bulk of the sock.

Fittin’ Mittens for the Mittens from Measurements class

This is a ball of Valley Yarns Berkshire test dyed by the Kangaroo Dyer. I’ve got a trio of baby cables running up the back of the mitten. I’m knitting these on US 7 needles since I like a firmer mitten.

Valley Log Cabin Blanket for the store.

I’m still not tired of log cabin knitting. So now I’m working on this baby blanket for the store. Still a great portable, mindless knitting project. Yet interesting enough watching how the colors combine together.

I still need to fix my father-in-law’s socks and finished my sister-in-law’s felted bag. Then I need to lengthen my raglan sweater and finish the crochet homework from (gasp!) last summer for review for the Expert Knitter program. Then FINALLY I can work on anything I feel like. Hopefully I’ll get all of this done by summertime.

And I started teaching my first Knitting II class and it seems like a good group of folks. I hope to teach more classes in the fall. All the money I make teaching is my knitting spending money, so there’s some incentive there.
